<![CDATA[Intraway’s self-provisioning portal allows technicians to activate a service (in seconds!) during the ONT installation visit at the customer’s address. Here’s how it works:
The services activation process through the Self-Provisioning portal consists of four phases:
- Sales Phase
- Installation Phase
- Activation Phase
- Notification to Business Support System (BSS) Phase

1. Sales Phase
The Business Support System (BSS) requests the OSS Service Activator creating a customer with a particular service. The order includes customer ID, subscribed service, activation code and specific data of the service.
In the OSS Service Activator, a subscription is created for the customer with the subscribed service along with some additional data such as the phone number assigned to the customer.
2. Installation Phase
The installation phase is divided into three steps:
- The technician arrives at the customer’s home. If needed, he will wire it.
- The technician takes any ONT from his personal stock and connects the fiber and a PC.
- The OSS Service Activator auto-discovers the ONT connected and pre-records it in the OLT with a self- provision profile (Most of the ONT vendors like Huawei, Zte, Nokia, Calix, etc. have the ability to auto-discovers the ONT connected with vendor-specific commands or using snmp traps).
3. Activation Phase
Power measurements and noise level
The technician enters any URL and is redirected to the self-provision portal. The OSS Service Activator auto-discovers the ONT connected and reports on screen the facilities where it is installed along with measurements of quality of installation.
In order for the technician to proceed with the installation and complete it, measurements must be within the correct values and marked green.
Service activation
After securing the quality of the installation, the technician enters the activation code. With the activation code, the OSS Service Activator query the corresponding record in its database and the result is displayed on screen so the technician can evaluate and confirm that the information of the customer and the subscribed service is correct. If so, the technician will complete the installation process.
Assigning Facilities
Once the installation is complete, The OSS Service Activator automatically assigns to the customer the facilities where the ONT was installed. Thus, the OSS Service Activator has an inventory of the installed base.
Once service activation is complete
After activating the service, the OSS Service Activator reboots the ONT and generates an installation certificate. The ONT gets the new configuration and the customer can now navigate.
4. Notification to Business Support System (BSS) Phase
Once the ONT installation is successfully completed, the OSS Service Activator notifies the Business Support System (BSS) to close the order. The following tasks are executed:
- Remove ONT from the Technician Personal Inventory
- Assign ONT to Customer
- Update facilities in the System Inventory
- Send installation certificate
- Comply with the order of installation and start ringing up
